I left my room, slammed the door behind me with vigour, walked through the empty halls of the students home and out of the building. I walk along dreary little streets towards the town square and up to the chateau to my easel. The sun was already dancing on the glowing paving. I put on dark glasses. My temples were pulsating, I should not have been drinking the night before! Bu how the hell is that possible here?! I’ll be suffering for half the day now. The stones on the pavement burnt me through the soles of my shoes. I’ve already walked a bit but I can still smell the disinfection from the students home. And that bleak decoartion on the corridors. Poor kids! This is what we grew up in. In this SAC (the Spirit of the Age of Communism). And here, they are still in it... I finally approach the square. I stop at L.L.‘s shop. L.L. welcomes me with a loud greeting and uncontrollable laughter. We talk a bit about whether or did too much drinking last night, and, most importantly, where the PARTY is tonight. I have to go paint, I don’t feel like it very much, I’d just rather chat, but on top of that a lady comes in to buy herself a costume, so I’d better be on my way. I keep walking across the square. I climb up to the chateau. I walk past the sculptors. They’ve been destroying those beautiful trees with their saws since early. I shout at them that sculptors are in fact just crafstmen, that painters are something quite different. They make faces, sawdust flying everywhere. They pretend they didn’t hear me. But painting does beat any other work of man. Leonardo used to say that. And he was some boy. Finally, I am sitting at my spiral. I look at it for a while. My face got all stiff from thinking or whatever makes a person’s face get stiff. I break away from the space and time and I plubng headlong into the waves of the spiral. I fly through a universe of colours, shapes, spaces, planets and worlds and I try to transfer them on the canvas. Here it needs a little less of red and there a bit more of blue... Break. This year, the company is good here. I go to visit a colleague-artist J.R. Exceptionally, we have a glass of great red. We talk about colours and women... If we’re going to the PARTY tonight?
