During the summer holidays of 2014, the chateau complex in Mikulov once again hosted several leading visual artists who took part in the 21st edition of the Mikulov Art Symposium "dílna", held between July 12 and August 9.
After the symposium’s 20th anniversary last year which brought together curators of the past ten symposiums, the event this year returned to its traditional model. Following his concept entitled Close Encounters, the symposium’s curator, painter Stanislav Diviš, invited other painters to take part in the event: Václav Bláha, Jan Pištěk, Oldřich Tichý, Petr Veselý and the Bosnia-Herzegovina-born Adin Popaja, along with the theoretician Ondřej Čech and technical assistant, student Viktorie Prokopová.
The official launch of the symposium, which included the traditional encounter of the artists with members of the public, their welcome and the presentation of the authors’ work, took place on July 12 in the chateau’s Sala Terrena and the upper courtyard. To the visitors’ delight, the evening concluded with a concert by the band Krásné nové stroje.
Stanislav Diviš brought another band to Mikulov during the course of the symposium; the Double Guitar Quartet which played on July 25 at the U Zajíce hotel as one of the symposium’s many accompanying programmes prepared by the organizers for both the participants and the public.
The final exhibition and the official closure of the 21st edition of the symposium took place on August 9 at the upper courtyard of the chateau. Visitors were welcomed by the symposium’s guarantor Libor Lípa followed by Stanislav Diviš who introduced all the participating authors. The official part of the programme concluded with remarks by Mikulov councilwoman Marie Leskovjanová who conveyed a message from Mayor Rostislav Koštial, and by the head the Regional Museum in Mikulov, Petr Kubín. The inauguration of the exhibition was followed by a concert by the bands Einkesselbudednes and Chameleon
Group. The evening was hosted by Marcela Effenbergerová, the head of the organizing
association.
Visitors of the event could sample the atmosphere of the symposium as captured in the photos by Magdalena Bláhová.
The exhibition, which ran until August 31, was partially installed in the space a permanent exposition of work from the contemporary art collection in the property of the town of Mikulov should be installed in the future, and also in a newly renovated exhibition area in the eastern wing of the Mikulov chateau.
