The eleventh annual Mikulov Art Symposium "dílna" ´04 (the workshop) was approved by the
Mikulov Town Council headed by its mayor Eduard Kulhavý.
"Dílna" took place on July 17, 2004 – August 14, 2004, in the premises of the Mikulov Chateau with significant aid of the staff of the Regional Museum in Mikulov.
The ceremonial opening took place on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at 17:00 o'clock in the main courtyard of the Mikulov Chateau. All participants and guests were welcomed by the director of the Regional Museum, Mgr. Dobromila Brichtová, and the vice-mayor of the Town of Mikulov, Ms. Marie Babicová. A speech was also presented by a representative of one of the most significant supporters of the 11th event, ing. Milan Venclík, first deputy of CEO of Regional Authority. The near future of MVS was unveiled to us by a member of the Advisory Committee, Mr. Libor Lípa. The group of participants in this event was introduced in detail by the curator of the 11th event, Margita Titlová Ylovsky. The gala opening was personally attended by all invited artists, with the exception of the MVS guest,Woody Vasulka, who arrived in the Czech Republic during the course of the Symposium. Česká spořitelna, a. s., has been the general partner of MVS for the second consecutive year. The artists were personally welcomed by its representative, ing. Tomáš Krábek, manager of regional branch Břeclav. Translation in English was ensured for all foreign guests by Jan Richter, historian of the Regional Museum in Mikulov. The program was moderated by the production manager of the company Avedon, s. r. o., Mrs. Jitka Kapičáková Havlíková. Music accompaniment was ensured by the Mikulov group Rosen Trio &...
As a part of events accompanying the Symposium, a presentation of the participating artists took place on August 6, 2004, in the premises of the Gallery Upper Stable; it was linked with a show of their works. Music was played by M - kvintet with Jiří Vrbka, who appeared as a guest. In the evening, Mr. Dieter Stahl-Offergeld recited poems from the collection of Vítězslav Vrbka called "Complexes and Cuts". The exhibition was organized by the company RAP, s. r. o.
On the eve of the ceremonial opening, on July 13, 2004, a traditional carnival procession went through the town.
The private view of the eleventh annual Mikulov Art Symposium "dílna" ´04, which took place on Saturday, August 14, 2004, from 17.00 o'clock, had to be moved to the interiors of the Chateau due to unfavourable weather. Therefore, Entry Hall and the adjacent Gajdoš Hall were used as exhibition areas. The exhibition was opened by the curator of the 11th annual event, Margita Titlová Ylovsky, and all individual participants in MVS gradually addressed the audience. Afterwards, a speech was presented by Jaroslav Smečka, vice-mayor of the town of Mikulov, who also symbolically took over the created works to include them in the town property. Curator of collection of contemporary art of the National Gallery in Prague, Helena Musilová, could not present her first assessment of created works because of illness. Attending guests were greeted by a representative of the general partner, Česká spořitelna, a. s., ing. Martin Slezák, director of the commercial centre in Brno. Libor Lípa and Marcela Effenbergerová spoke on behalf of the
Advisory Committee of MVS about visions of the future development of the Symposium. Unveiling of the works was enriched with "balloon performance" of Margita Titlová Ylovsky, when wine grapes were floating in the exhibition premises, having been suspended on big helium balloons. In the late evening, the organizers in co-operation with the Cultural Centre Mikulov prepared the traditional "August night", which took place in the Chateau hall. Music was played by the group Oldřich Veselý & eBand, the group (unss) and also the legendary Garage with Tony Ducháček.
Academic artist Margita Titlová Ylovsky was the curator of the eleventh annual event. Not only thanks to her selection, she managed to storm the normally calm waters of Mikulov.
