Dear friends and supporters of the Mikulov Art Symposium “dílna”,

It is autumn again, a time when we evaluate the past, 11th year. Throughout the year, many cultural and social event take place in our town and the art symposiums is one of the most significant. It is in fact one of the major events, besides the vine harvest festival, that conclude the cultural season in our town. I firt participated in this important Mikulov event in 1997 when the Symposium went through the fourth year of its existence. Since then, many artists have come to our town who contributed their works to our collection and improved its value. The art collection is the property of the town of Mikulov. I have had the opportunity to personally meet many participants of the Symposium and they all enjoyed being in Mikulov and like coming back. That shows how interesting our town is and how the past comes to terms here with the present. This is a fact perceived especially by visitors to our town. Every year, the numbers of supports of the Symposium are rising while new ways and directions are being explored to enhance the attractiveness of the event. I would like to thank all the organizers, sponsors and supporters whithout whom the project could not survive and improve.

The Mikulov Art Symposium "dílna" has become an integral part of the culural calender of Mikulov and the whole region. For four weeks, Mikulov becomes the home for artits from around the world. The event takes place in the beautiful environment of the Mikulov Chateau and the works created by the artists, adorn the beautiful setting. The significance of the Symposium reaches beyond the region and it enables meeting of people from around the world. Works of art created there in past years are the bases of the collection of contemporary art. I would like to thank all the organizers and sponsors for preparing and supporting the Symposium under conditions that are not always easy. The very fact that the Symposium has had already seen its 11th year shows its viability and its usefulness. Let me personally with „dílna“ many successful years in the future during which new works of art will be created that will enrich the permanent exhibition at the Chateau of Mikulov.
