Mikulov
August 8-15, 2009
In Mikulov, Eva Jiřička employed a method she used in her latest works, combining documentary footage with artificially created situations. Due to the documentary nature of the footage, her videos come across as a natural depiction of an “everyday” event, while at the same time creating a sense of manipulation with the “actors” as well as with the viewers. At the symposium, she approached the inhabitants of Mikulov with inquiries about local legends, myths and stories which she had learned about. She voyeuristically recorded unsuspecting inhabitants of Mikulov and likened them to the legendary characters in the final footage. She thus created a video time- and space-wise related to the symposium in progress, in which she wittily integrated the locals. She carried out similar undertakings as part of her pervious work in Zurich, Vienna and Bratislava.
