Margita Titlová Ylovsky

Margita Titlová Ylovsky (1957) is a drafter and painter. She has also worked with photography, object, installation and performance. She attended Prague’s Academy of Fine Arts between 1977 and 1983 but soon became a leading figure of a new generation of artists working in structures parallel to the official art scene of then Czechoslovakia. In the 1980s, she exhibited in less exposed places ether than official exhibition venues where she only debuted in the 1990s. Since the start of her career, she has collaborated with her husband, Vladimír Merta who came with her to Mikulov in 2004 when she was the symposium’s curator; however, she first attended the symposium in 1999. For many years, Titlová Ylovsky led the drawing and print studio at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno’s Technical University (1998–2011). She is currently the head of the painting studio at the Faculty of Arts and Design of University of West Bohemia in Plzeň. Her drawings and paintings are usually based on recording of the dynamic, emotional, corporeal process of creation and the visualisation of energy fields emerging between the work and the author. Blurred colour stains on her large-format watercolours she created in Mikulov this year were warmed up by rainbows of refracted light, reflected onto them by illuminated CDs. Short after the symposium, Titlová Ylovsky presented her Mikulov at an independent exhibition BIO at Prague’s Montmartre Gallery.
