Facts

The original idea of the Mikulov Art Symposium "Workshop" was born in early 1994. Its original architects were the then mayor and vice-mayor of Mikulov, Mr. Tomáš Zejda and Mr. Vojtěch Příbramský, and the sculptor Nikos Armutidis.

The organization of the fourth symposium was approved by the Mikulov local authority, led by the current mayor Mr. Ivo Koneš.

The symposium was preceded by an exhibition of works by participants of the MAS "Workshop" '97, held at the Stucco Hall Gallery in Mikulov between July 10 and July 30, 1997.

The Symposium was held between July 18 and August 23, 1997 at the Mikulov chateau with substantial support from the Regional Museum in Mikulov, its management and employees.

The symposium was ceremonially opened on July 18, 1997 at the salla terrena of the Mikulov chateau.
At the same time, the exhibition Mikulov Art Symposium „Workshop“ 1994-1996 was opened at the chateau gallery. Opening speeches were held by Mrs. Dobromila Brichtová, head of the Regional Museum Mikulov, Mrs. Lydie Filipová, Head of Department of Regional Development of the District Office in Břeclav, Mr. Eduard Kulhavý, Deputy Mayor of Mikulov, Mr. Jiří Pavlov, Senator for the District of Mikulov, Mrs. Eliška Lysková, expert from the Moravian Gallery in Brno, Mr. Libor Lípa, guarantor of the MAS, the sculptor Čestmír Suška, curator of the MAS !Workshop“, and Mr. Vítězslav Vrbka for The Oversensitives group.

The results of the MAS „Workshop“ '97 were presented in the park of the Mikulov chateau.

Exhibition opening was held on August 23, 1997 at 5pm. The programme included performances by the "Virtuosi di Mikulov" choir, U nás se svítí, Second hand band, Oldřich Veselý, Mr. Bořek with his Boreček puppet, Malevil and the Three Roses guitar trio. Speeches were held by Mr. Ivo Koneš, mayor of Mikulov Mrs. Dobromila Brichtová, Mr. Vítězslav Vrbka for The Oversensitive group, and participants of the symposium. The programme was moderated by Mr. Libor Lípa and by Mrs. Marcela Gamanovová, the producer of the MAS.

On September 11, 1997, an exhibition titled "The Mikulov Symposia" was opened at a hall under the Plečnik Staircase and in the Paradise Garden of the Prague Castle. Opening speech was held by Mrs. Jana Tichá from the organizing Freedom foundation. Further speeches were held by Mr. Jiří Pavlov and by Mr. Vítězslav Vrbka. The programme included performances by the "Virtuosi di Mikulov" choir and by the Three Roses guitar trio.
