Peter Angermann
was born on February 17, 1945 in Rehau, Bavaria. He lives and works in Thurndorf in northern Bavaria. Between 1966 and 1968, he studied at Gerhard Wendland’s studio at the Academy of Fine Arts Nurnberg and between 1968 and 1972 at the studio of Josef Beuys at the Kunstakadamie in Düsseldorf. In 1979, he along with Jan Knap and Milan Kunc founded the famous postmodern group NORMAL. Peter Angermann is also a teacher; in 1986, he was a visiting associate professor at the Iceland Academy of the Arts in Reykjavik and between 1992 and 1992 a visiting professor of painting in Kassel. He led a painting studio at the renowned Staedelschule in Frankfurt am Main between 1996 and 2002. He has since worked at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg. In the context of international art, Peter Angermann represents an interesting position of the “traditional painter”. In Mikulov, he worked with plein-air painting, a discipline often referred to as “Sunday painting”. But with his lively hand and innovative approach, Angermann showed how stimulating this strategy can be. Besides “regular” vedutas, Angermann also works with narrative paintings, often loaded with critical and metaphorical themes.
